Roster Moves and Injury Comeback
Having faced the arduous journey of rehabilitation from an Achilles tendon tear in October 2022, Needham’s commitment to his recovery was evident in the previous offseason when the Dolphins opted to re-sign him. His perseverance paid off, and in 2023 he participated in 10 games. Although his playtime was limited, with 71 snaps on defense and 31 on special teams, expectations for his performance are higher for the next season as he continues to distance himself from his injury.
A Versatile Defensive Asset
Needham’s journey with the Dolphins has been a notable one. Joining the team during a rebuild phase in 2019, he quickly proved himself to be a versatile and indispensable part of Miami’s defensive strategy. His ability to adapt and play in various positions within the secondary, whether it be as a slot cornerback, on the boundary, or stepping in as a safety, has been crucial for the Dolphins. Over his tenure, Needham has been productive, contributing six interceptions, 25 pass deflections, and memorably, scoring a touchdown off an interception in a game against the New Orleans Saints.
