Auburn Athletics Announces Major Profit, Alabama announces too

The Auburn University athletic department recently announced that it made a $9 million profit for the 2023 fiscal year. On the other hand, the University of Alabama broke even during the same period. Auburn’s men’s basketball and football programs were the main contributors to the department’s profit.
Auburn basketball generated a revenue of $19.2 million with $15 million in expenses, resulting in a profit of $4.2 million. Meanwhile, Auburn’s football program recorded revenue of $125.6 million and expenses of $72 million, leading to a profit of $53.6 million. However, Auburn’s non-basketball/football revenue suffered a loss of $33.9 million, with $7.6 million in revenue and $41.5 million in expenses.
Overall, Auburn’s athletic program managed to generate a total of $192.7 million in revenues with $183.7 million in expenses, resulting in a $9 million profit. These figures were reported in Auburn and Alabama’s annual Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act survey.
As for the University of Alabama, their basketball program saw a profit of $7.8 million, with $20.6 million in revenue and $12.8 million in expenses. Alabama’s football program reported a profit of $46.6 million, with $125.8 million in revenue and $79.2 million in expenses. On the other hand, Alabama experienced a loss of $9.6 million in their non-basketball/football teams, with $25.5 million in revenue and $35.1 million in expenses.
Thus, Alabama’s total revenue and expenses for the fiscal year 2023 came in at $191,190,486, resulting in a break-even situation. These figures were also reported in the annual Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act survey.
It is worth mentioning that colleges and universities across the country, including Auburn and Alabama, are required to self-report their financials to the U.S. Department of Education annually.
Overall, Auburn University’s athletic department managed to record a significant profit, thanks to the success of their men’s basketball and football programs. On the other hand, the University of Alabama managed to break even, with their football program playing a pivotal role in generating revenue.
