• I believe this game is close in the 4th quarter before FSU pulls away. Don’t sleep on the Yellowjackets, I have them as live dogs in this one. They return Dual Threat QB Haynes King, RB Jamal Haynes, star sophomore WR Eric Singleton Jr, a good OL and the DL could give FSU some fits. The Noles have a new QB in experienced senior DJ Uiagalelei who has had his ups and downs in college. I expect the FSU pass rush especially Patrick Payton to play a big factor. Creating pressure on Haynes King has caused him to throw INTs and thats what the Noles will try to do. The secondary for FSU is a strength and I expect RB Roydell Williams to have a big game. I’ll take the Noles to win but GT +11.5/12 to cover.
Montana State 38 New Mexico 24
• Montana State is one of the best FCS teams in the Nation. QB Tommy Mellott and WR Ty McCullouch will be too much for the Lobos to handle but I do expect UNM QB Devon Dampier and RB Andrew Henry to have productive games.
SMU 45 Nevada 17
• The Mustangs make the jump to the ACC and have big expectations heading into the season. QBs Preston Stone and Kevin Jennings will both play in this one and I usually hate rotating QBs but it will be okay vs a team like Nevada. I expect the RBs for SMU to dominate in this one and receivers Jake Bailey, Jordan Hudson and TE RJ Maryland create big matchup problems. SMU wins in this one comfortably and covers the 24.5 point spread.
Hawai’i 49 Delaware State 13
• Delaware State is a very bad team who’s only win last season was vs Virginia Lynchburg. Hawai’i should have a very good offense in 2024 and I could see them winning 35-3 or something at halftime before letting some backups play in the 2nd half. The Rainbow Warriors play UCLA next week and they dont need to show too much in week 0.
