Wake Forest Football Faces Tough 2023 Schedule with ACC Heavyweights and Brutal November Stretch

Fifth Quarter’s analysis of Wake Forest’s 2023 football schedule offers a winnable outlook for the Demon Deacons. Despite missing out on some of the ACC’s middle-of-the-pack teams, they still have to face multiple conference heavyweights, including Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Florida State. To make matters worse, Wake Forest will be traveling to Clemson and Notre Dame, adding extra difficulty to their schedule.

The November stretch looks especially daunting for Wake Forest, with three road games in four weeks. It will be a rough finish, with a home game against NC State followed by matchups against Notre Dame and Syracuse, all away from home.

Despite these challenges, Wake Forest should be favored to win two of their first three games against Elon and Vanderbilt with a bye week sandwiched between them. The Demon Deacons will then have to travel to Old Dominion before returning home for a crucial home matchup against an improving Georgia Tech program.

Wake Forest’s fate in the ACC conference will largely be decided by how they fare against the Tigers and Seminoles. The Tigers’ home game against Wake Forest, in particular, will be very tough for the Demon Deacons. A win against Clemson would be a huge upset and go a long way toward boosting the program’s national profile.

Even if Wake Forest struggles in conference play, they should still be able to qualify for a bowl game thanks to their lighter non-conference slate early in the season. Overall, it will be a tough 2023 campaign for the Demon Deacons, but they should still be able to compete thanks to a talented roster and experienced coach Dave Clawson.
