Vanderbilt beats Florida for the first time since 2013

For the second time in the past 32 games the Vanderbilt Commodores have defeated the Florida Gators. This is the first time the Commodores have beaten the Gators since 2013. This is also the first time they have beaten Florida in Nashville since 1988. After sustaining a five game losing streak in the middle of the season, Vanderbilt is now on a roll winning two consecutive games. The Commodores now sit at a 5-6 record, and have an opportunity to reach bowl eligibility still. So let’s get a recap of this game, and look what’s next for both teams.

Player of the Game

Vanderbilt RB Ray Davis

  • 29 Carries 117 Rushing Yards

Obviously it could have gone to quarterback Mike Wright, but anytime you get a workload of 29 carries with 100+ rushing yards that’s a special day in the SEC. Especially when you’re the one icing the game late to melt down the game clock. What a big moment for the senior that has an opportunity to eclipse the 1,000 yard mark this season.

What’s Next?

  • Vanderbilt vs #5 Tennessee
  • Florida vs #19 Florida State

The Commodores will try to shock the world as they take on their instate rivals a top 5 Tennessee team. If they want to stop Tennessee from possibly reaching the college football playoffs and get to bowl eligibility themselves they have to win. Florida in the meanwhile will have to limp into Tallahassee on a Friday night. They will have a shot to ruin Florida State’s improved season, and salvage the first season of the Napier era.
