Week 0 Predictions

Top 25

(13) Notre Dame 28 Navy 10

• The Irish bring in Sam Hartman from Wake Forest and he’s an experienced veteran who should bring this Irish passing attack alive. I’ll admit he had much better WRs playing for the Demon Deacons so that concerns me but I believe he can help them develop into productive players. Navy will try to slow this game down and run clock and with the new rule changes we could see 10-15 less plays a game. This game is in Dublin Ireland so there’s no home field advantage to speak of but the Irish surely will be cheered for. I believe Notre Dame wins and Navy covers the spread.

(6) USC 56 San Jose State 14

• The Trojans led by Heisman Trophy Winner Caleb Williams are 30 point favorites vs the Spartans and I expect them to cover the spread. The USC offense is too good to be stopped, SJSU can only hope to contain them. Dorian Singer Transfers in from Arizona and I expect him to be a Heisman Contender. SJSU has some weapons of their own with QB Chevan Cordeiro and RB Kairee Robinson. I expect USC to get out ahead early and pile on the points.

Unranked Games

UTEP 34 Jacksonville State 27

• Jacksonville State moves up to CUSA from the FCS. Their Transition won’t be as difficult as some expect because they’re a solid team and CUSA isn’t the toughest conference in CFB. UTEP returns one of the top DEs in CFB in Praise Amaewhule and QB Gavin Hardison is back. I believe this game is high scoring but UTEP gets a close win.

Ohio 27 San Diego State 24

• Ohio is a 2.5 point underdog but I like them to win this game straight up (ML Sprinkle). The Bobcats return veteran QB Kurtis Rourke, star RB Sieh Bangura, a trio of WRs I love in Sam Wiglusz, Jacoby Jones and Miles Cross so I expect their offense to excel. The Aztecs are going with Jalen Mayden at QB as he moves back to QB from Safety. He’s a Dual Threat who should have a big season. My biggest concern for SDSU is the front seven where they lost almost everyone, however the secondary should be a strong point. I believe this game will be a close battle but give me Kurtis Rourke and the Bobcats to win as Moneyline Underdogs.

New Mexico State 26 UMass 24

• This game could legitimately me one of the most competitive games of Week 0. I believe a lot of people are sleeping on UMass and QB Taisun Phommachanh. I’ve heard WR George Johnson III has looked incredible this spring and RB Kay’Ron Adams is a player I’m high on. New Mexico State won 7 games last season and Head Coach Jerry Kill has them primed for another 6+ win season. QB Diego Pavia emerged midway through last season and had 19 TDs. NMSU only returns 5 starters on Defense but overall they have a better team than UMass, at least in week 1, I believe UMass will continue to improve as the year goes on. This game will be close until the end but I give the edge to NMSU, I do like the Minutemen to cover the spread.

Vanderbilt 41 Hawaii 24

• The Commodores won 5 games last season which was a big improvement and had wins vs Florida and Kentucky in the SEC. Last season Vanderbilt played Hawaii and won 63-10. QB AJ Swann is back for his true sophomore season and will be the starter. The Commodores have weapons on Offense in WR Will Sheppard and WR Jayden McGowan. My formula I use for gambling loves the Rainbow Warriors to cover the 17.5 point spread. Just my basic knowledge of College Football I know Vanderbilt is way better than Hawaii but I have to trust my model on this one, Vanderbilt wins, Hawaii covers.

Louisiana Tech 42 FIU 28

• Louisiana Tech brings in QB Hank Bachmeier from Boise State, he’s a seasoned veteran who struggled last season but going to CUSA could be the cure he needs. RB Marquis Crosby is OUT but RB Craig Williams is a viable player who should excel. WR Smoke Harris is an electrifying player and the Defense has a ton of transfers they expect a big season from. FIU returns QB Grayson James who impressed last season and star Safety Demetrius Hill who’s elite. FIU brings in some Transfers like LB Avery Huff, Safety JoJo Evans and DE Claude Larkins. I believe the Panthers will put up a fight in this game but Louisiana Tech is the better team.
