The 128 Team Playoff, Day 91: Tennessee vs. Arizona State

We’ve created a 130-team bracket using ESPN’s FPI as our ranking system.

“But, anyone can create a bracket, how will the games be simulated?” Great question; NCAA Game Sim was used.

For each game on the bracket, the matchup was simulated once and every day a write-up will be done.

For the matchup, player statistics will be simulated and included in the write-ups.

Finally, thanks to the NCAA Game Sim premium membership, we’ll show the results of doing 100 simulations all at once. This is to see if a given result was more towards the expected side or if a given result was more towards the upset or luckier side.

All of the results have been simulated and tabulated, so at the time of writing the introduction, the results are already in.

This is designed to be fun, so please enjoy.

From Georgia to Massachusetts, here’s the 130-team bracket:

Match 92

(4) Tennessee vs. (5) Arizona State

How Tennessee Got Here: 31-10 win over (13) Ball State

How Arizona State Got Here: 17-16 win over (12) Tulane

Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker was this game’s MVP.

He was 14-for-27 with 271 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Hooker also added 76 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 attempts.

While those aren’t overly impressive numbers, they were critical for the Volunteers in this game.

Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels had a similarly average game. He was 17-for-30 for 241 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

The game’s leading rusher was Arizona State Rachaad White, who had 82 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.

Tennessee kicker Chase McGrath was 3-for-3 on field goals, including the go-ahead kick from 42 yards out.

In a game where neither offense was consistent, Tennessee sneaks past Arizona State by a score of 23-21.

In 100 simulations, Tennessee won 88 of them by an average margin of 33.6-17.

Winner’s Next Matchup: (1) Oklahoma State

Tomorrow’s Matchup: (5) Boise State vs. (13) Hawaii
