The Texas Longhorns are gathering steam with their recruiting ambitions, setting their sights on a top-class. As the front-runner for top cornerback Kobe Black, the Longhorns are also in tense recruiting battles for two five-star talents, Ryan Wingo and Brandon Baker.
Focus on Defensive Line
Fresh off securing five-star edge rusher Colin Simmons earlier this month, it’s the defensive line where their laser focus is seemingly directed towards now. Five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley has catapulted as a main priority for the Longhorns, with the belief being that the feeling from McKinley is mutual.
Less than a fortnight away, Sep. 1 is the chosen date for McKinley’s commitment announcement, just in time for his final season opener as a high schooler. Back in June, McKinley disclosed his top six schools, including Texas, along with Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Georgia, and LSU. While the Bulldogs seem to be more or less out of it, the schools coming up most include LSU, Texas and Oklahoma; with Ohio State and Texas A&M having a puncher’s chance as underdogs. And despite LSU securing a late July visit from McKinley and them going all out for the state’s number one player, most of the buzz really seems to be around Oklahoma and Texas.
With some services ranking McKinley among the top 25 prospects nationally, McKinley ranks as high as the No. 3 defensive lineman and is the top recruit in Louisiana on numerous recruiting services. Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing over 280 pounds, McKinley’s raw power, agility and skillful hand usage at the point of attack make him an intimidating prospect on the interior defensive line who will no doubt be a stalwart for a defensive line for years to come.
