Texas A&M Football Ready to Bounce Back – Will They Dominate the SEC in 2023?

Texas A&M football begins spring practice today with the Aggies looking to bounce back after a 5-7 season last year. Injuries played a significant role in the team’s struggles in 2022, but it also gave a lot of younger players valuable experience, setting them up for success in the future.

Fortunately for the Aggies, 19 of the 22 players who started the season finale against LSU return. The team saw several veterans opt to return to College Station for one more year, including Ainias Smith, Layden Robinson, McKinnley Jackson, and Demani Richardson. As a result, the team is poised to make a strong run in the SEC in 2023.

The starting lineup is pretty much set, with only a few spots up for grabs. Undoubtedly, the most significant position battle is who will replace Devon Achane at running back. Several young players, including Amari Daniels, Le’Veon Moss, and Rueben Owens, will compete for carries this spring.

In addition to the position battles, the team will scrimmage twice, on April 1 and 6. These scrimmages provide an opportunity for younger players to showcase their skills and make a name for themselves among the coaching staff.

Furthermore, the program’s Pro Day is set for March 28, where the team’s draft-eligible players will have a chance to showcase their skills to NFL scouts. Potential first-round pick DeMarvin Leal will likely be the most sought-after prospect at Pro Day.

The injuries last season may have been problematic, but it allowed younger players like Conner Weigman to get valuable playing time. Weigman started at quarterback in the season finale against LSU and threw for 300 yards to get his first career win.

Texas A&M is a team with high expectations, and after enduring a challenging season in 2022, they’re looking to rebound in a big way in 2023. With an abundance of young talent, the Aggies could make a run for the SEC Championship and possibly even the College Football Playoff.

The Maroon & White Game is set for April 15 at 3:00 pm at Kyle Field, giving fans a chance to see the Aggies in action before the season starts. Until then, we’ll be looking for reports coming out of College Station to give us a glimpse of what’s to come this fall.
