Tennessee has emerged as the winner, for now, in the recruiting battle for five-star receiver Mike Matthews. His selection of Tennessee comes against some stiff competition in Clemson, Georgia, USC, and more. With Matthews’ addition, anticipation buzzes through Knoxville as they are unlikely to be finished.
Top athlete Ryan Wingo has Tennessee high on his list, despite Texas and Missouri also making a strong push. Wingo, set to return to the campus, also has Miami, Texas A&M, Georgia, Alabama, and others high on his list.
Meanwhile, Tennessee is working hard to land Amari Jefferson. They face a hurdle in form of Alabama, who currently appear to be the top competitors for Jefferson’s commitment.
The selection of Tennessee by Matthews, makes him the 17th commit of Coach Heupel’s team in this cycle. However, the excitement isn’t over. Two five-stars, Jordan Ross and Kamarion Franklin, have Tennessee at the top of their lists. On Ross’s side, Florida is the key competition while Franklin draws interest from Auburn, Miami, Florida State, and Ole Miss, mainly.
Tennessee’s offensive line class is starting to solidify after adding William Satterwhite and Max Anderson. Bennett Warren is another name to focus on as a potential addition for the Vols.
Next week will see Cai Bates announce his commitment. Tennessee is high on the corners board, but that may be LSU’s commitment to lose after his Jun. 23 visit. Florida State is also on his short list.
It really looks like things are looking up in Knoxville as Coach Heupel continues building momentum for the program.
