A SEC East team that could regress in 2023

The post-Steve Spurrier era has seen a dramatic turn of events for South Carolina. Their recent regular season showcased a resilient side of them as they triumphed over Tennessee and sprung a surprise victory over Clemson at Death Valley, substantial steps forward from previous performances. Given this trajectory, one might easily imagine a steady progression in the team’s performance. Dissenting voices suggesting a middling 6-6 scoreboard, enough only for a trip to the Liberty Bowl, seem hardly plausible now.

Entering a similar phase is Florida, with last year’s 6-6 being the kick-off to the Billy Napier era. Since his arrival in Gainesville, Napier has been known for his patience and logical approach. However, expecting a third consecutive 6-win regular season is not something any Gator fan is ready to fathom. For them, the belief is simple – things can surely not get worse.

With the upcoming schedule featuring nearly five games against preseason top-15 teams, predicting the fate of the Graham Mertz-led Florida team becomes tricky. Can this team defy odds and show significant improvement? As things stand, it’s too soon to proclaim, but in the world of sports, anything’s possible. Until then, it’s a time of hopeful anticipations and nail-biting predictions for all those keeping an eye on the ups and downs of college football.
