It is hard to complain since the COVID-19 virus has affected every program. However, after talking to those around the Kentucky program, it likely has delayed a couple of in-state commitments.
Also, a few huge targets from out of state have not gotten as far along in the process due to visitation limitations. However, head coach Mark Stoops and staff are confident and this is why the Wildcats have still only taken 11 commitments.
All in all, COVID-19 has slowed but not destroyed the efforts of the staff on the recruiting trail:
The Next Commitment?
A few names kept coming up that may commit sooner than later. Christian Lewis, a highly regarded wide receiver from Alabama, is the name mentioned most often. Martez Thrower, a linebacker prospect who is speculated to have silently committed, is also someone to keep an eye on. The last name to mention here is Khyree Jackson, a very long and talented defensive back from the junior college ranks.
Mock 2021 Class for Kentucky
First off, expect all 11 of current commitmentss to remain onboard. Here is who you can suspect to likely join them:
Kyree Walker – 3-star RB (Ohio)
Christian Lewis – 3-star WR (Alabama)
Quincy Skinner – 3-star WR (Florida)
Khyree Jackson – JUCO CB
Andrew Wilson Lamp (current West Virginia commit) – 3-star CB
Martez Thrower – 3-star DB (Kentucky)
Jordan Dingle – 4-star TE (Kentucky)
Jager Burton – 4-star OL (Kentucky)
Rayshaun Benny – 4-star OL (Michigan)
Damon Payne- 4 star DL (Michigan)
A few others to watch: Kamal Hadden, Kelvin Gilliam, Terrion Arnold, and Michael Trigg.
All in all, this class will be yet another very strong one for Kentucky. All signs point to an incredible 2022 class, which Kentucky has a silent verbal for already. That verbal should be made public before long.
