Meet James Quinnelly: Daphne Standout Gaining Offers

Meet James Quinnelly: Daphne Standout Gaining Offers

February 4, 2020 by Shayler

Photo provided

A sophomore at Daphne High School in Alabama, James Quinnelly has big-time football dreams. At 6-foot-4 and more than 240 pounds, Quinnelly already has offers from UAB and Southern Mississippi. As his career carries on, the expectation is that more will come. There is obviously a lot of time, but we caught up with Quinnelly to talk football and much more.

Q&A Fun

  1. What is your favorite meal?

Barbecue ribs is my favorite meal. But a good ‘ol ribeye never hurt anybody, either.

  1. Favorite place you have been to in your life?

My family and I have done a lot of cruises, so it’s pretty hard to pick just one place – but anywhere there is water is fine by me.

  1. Do you want to follow in your brother footprints (John Quinnelly, Penn) and go the Ivy League route?

The Ivy League is a special place, full of history and great academics. Having the opportunity to play there would be great.

  1. Favorite college team growing up?

Being from Alabama, you only really have two choices when it comes to choosing your favorite football team. It’s either Alabama or Auburn, and I’m an Auburn man.

  1. Your idol growing up?

Wow, there are lots of people that I look up to and admire. I grew up having two awesome granddads who were wise and great men. My head football Coach (Kenny) King is a good man as well. He just does the right thing all the time. But my dad is someone that I idolize. He’s a really good man, a great dad, and I love him.

  1. Is a hot dog a sandwich?

A hot dog is not a sandwich. I’m a Conecuh sausage guy myself. That stuff will change your life. It’s so good.

  1. What’s the most ridiculous fact you know?

The most ridiculous fact I know is that Wombat poop is cubed? I just looked that up.

  1. What is something about you most people don’t know about you?

I love playing basketball almost as much as football.

  1. Favorite movie?

My favorite movie is Talladega Nights. “If you ain’t first, you’re last.”

  1. Being a member of the (Latter Day Saints) church, what has been the biggest struggle sports-wise?

I think being LDS is great, but a hard commandment to live is keeping the Sabbath day holy. I try to look at Sunday as a special day that is different than all the other days. Some people think that is a LDS thing, but really it’s a Christian thing.

  1. What is your favorite subject in school?

My favorite subject in school is Geography. I’m fascinated by the different places in the world.

  1. What is your biggest pet peeve?

My biggest pet peeve is haircuts. Jesus had long hair, why can’t I?

Quinnelly’s current grade-point average is a 3.7. Quinnelly is currently a sophomore and will be taking the ACT after the act prep class that he’s currently taking.

Quinnelly has two current offers from UAB and Southern Mississippi, but just had a visit with Virginia head coach Bronco Mendenhall. South Alabama has shown interest, but has not yet offered a scholarship.
