Player Spotlight: Jaylen Jones, 2024 DB

When we talk about some of the best unknown players in the country, we should start with Jaylen Jones from Hamilton High School in Arizona.

The big question regarding Jones is which side of the ball he’ll excel the most. A very talented running back with great vision, balance and power, Jones is also one of the top defensive back prospects in the state of Arizona.

Being a talented defensive back is nothing unfamiliar to the Jones family. Jones’ father Herana-Daze Jones played at Indiana and four seasons with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals. Prior to heading to Bloomington, the older Jones was also a top defensive back at Iroquois High School in Louisville.

“There’s a lot of things that my son is already doing better than I was at his age,” Herana-Daze Jones said.

Jones looked amazing at the SMU camp this year and also at his father’s alma mater Indiana. Unfortunately, Jones will not get to play until Week 6, because of transfer rules within the state but there are a handful of FBS programs ready to see game film.

“Watch this one closely,” Coach Lou Perrone, of the well-known recruiting service My Recruits, said of Jones. “This is one of the most talented defensive backs I have worked with in the last 10 years.”
