Ohio State Dominates Oregon: A Rose Bowl Recap

Ohio State’s performance during the 2025 Rose Bowl showcased their dominance on both sides of the ball. The Buckeyes secured a substantial 41-21 victory against Oregon, advancing to the College Football Playoff semifinals. Ohio State established control early in the game, driving to a 34-0 lead by the second quarter.

Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith emerged as a standout player, shattering the Ohio State single-game freshman receiving record with 187 yards. His impressive performance included seven receptions and two touchdown catches, earning him the title of Rose Bowl Offensive MVP. Quarterback Will Howard supported him with a solid outing, completing 65 percent of his passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns.

The running game added to the offensive explosion. TreVeyon Henderson rushed for 94 yards and two touchdown scores on just eight attempts, showcasing a remarkable 11.8 yards-per-carry average. Quinshon Judkins also contributed, adding 85 rushing yards to enrich a total attack that amassed nearly 500 yards.

Key to Ohio State’s success, the defense was equally imposing. They registered a staggering eight sacks and limited Oregon’s ground game to a negative rushing total. The Buckeyes stifled Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel, allowing only a handful of successful drives. Linebacker Cody Simon led the defensive effort, earning Rose Bowl Defensive MVP honors with 11 tackles and two sacks.

Despite a valiant effort from Oregon, which saw Gabriel tie the FBS all-time passing touchdown record during the game, the Buckeyes maintained their composure. Gabriel finished with key statistics but was consistently pressured by the relentless Ohio State defense.

Ohio State will now shift its focus to the Cotton Bowl, where they will face Texas. This matchup marks the fourth meeting between the storied programs, elevating the stakes of an anticipated clash in the semifinals. With momentum on their side, Ohio State enters this next stage filled with confidence after an impressive showing in Pasadena.
