Pictured above is not only one of the best FSU offensive lineman to play in Tallahassee, but probably one of the best offensive lineman of all time. The crazy thing about his tenure at FSU is that it was only two years. It’s because Walter Jones went to a Junior College before Florida State. He had two years of physical maturity before he came into his first season at Florida State. Junior College lineman are snagged for that very reason. When a program is thin at the offensive line position, and does not have the time to develop offensvie lineman, they go the JUCO route. JUCO lineman are already physically mature enough to step in right away. Remember Menleik Watson from the 2012 season? He only played one season at Florida State, but he was a JUCO prospect before that. He ended up being drafted in the second round by the Oakland Raiders.
If you are looking at the Rivals Top 100 for JUCO prospects you will find a total of 12 offensive tackles and 3 offensive guards. The sad thing is none of these prospects hold an offer from FSU. Currently all fifteen prospects are committed else where, but I guarantee most of them could easily be flipped. The recruiting pitch of playing time and the “Florida State” brand has a lot of recruiting magic to it. I think the only disappointment I have in Coach Taggart recruiting is that he is not looking towards JUCO Offensive Lineman currently.
Can’t miss OL Targets
Currently Florida State has two offensive lineman committed in this 2019 recruiting class. Right now they are battling for four OL prospects who are not committed towards anyone, and a couple they are trying to flip. Right now they need to at least get three of the following six, at least go 50/50. Then add two JUCO offensive lineman.
