With Northwestern winning yesterday they added some very important hardware to their trophy case. For the first time since 1983, The Red Raiders claimed the NAIA National Championship. This will give the guys from Orange City Iowa their third NAIA National Championship. So it had me wondering which NAIA teams have national championships, and how many.
Below you are going to see a graphic listing all those teams who have won national championships. There are a ton of programs that have won NAIA Titles, but we are going to include those that are active members. So check it out and let us know if any surprises you. I do want to add some context that some of these teams have NAIA Division II National Championships included in their number. For example, Northwestern’s first two were from the NAIA Division II. That Division does not exist anymore, as it ended back in 1996. Everyone is all together now, in one division.
The big question lately is where there be another state that can challenge the recent Iowa dominance in the NAIA National Championship game. The state of Iowa has three separate national championship winners in the past ten years. Just last season we had an All-Iowa National Championship game. Look out for states such as Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky and Florida to possibly make a major push in NAIA Football soon.
