Cooper’s Bets: Taking the Titans

by coach___cooper
Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans are a three-point favorite against the Jaguars. Check out Cooper's bets to see who I am taking.

It is another glorious NFL Sunday and we are already in Week 14. We had a great simple Saturday hitting an easy parlay in the FCS playoffs, so let’s win some money in the NFL this morning. Today I am taking a focus on the AFC South with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans. This will be the first meeting between the two this season. Last week both were individually embarrassed losing games by 25+. This game is really appealing on the bookie site we use as it’s a high value spread. So let’s take a look and breakdown what pick I am taking in todays article of Cooper’s Bets.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans

1 PM EST CBS
Spread Tennessee -3 (Bovada)
Tenneesse 7-5 (Against the Spread: 8-4)
Jacksonville 4-8
(Against the Spread: 4-8)
Cooper’s Pick: Tennessee Covering -3

It seems like all seasons long the Tennessee Titans have been a consistent value pick against the spread. Playing an organization like Jacksonville who looks like they are a year away from playoff contention has to catch the eyes of most. Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence is currently dealing with a toe injury, so it will be intriguing to see if it affects his play. The Jaguars Rush Defense is allowing 4 Yards Per Carry, and that is Derrick Henry’s Rush Average. I am taking Tennessee as the home team and the ability to grind out Jacksonville in the ground game.

Something has to Give

Entering Week 14 the Jaguars have the 28th worst defense against the pass while Tennessee is at 31. Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence continues to improve and hasn’t thrown an interception since the month of October. Tennessee QB Ryan Tannehill doesn’t have to do anything amazing for them to win today, but playing against the Jaguars secondary should provide opportunities. The difference is if the Titans can get RB Derrick Henry going, the passing opportunities against a vulnerable Jaguars pass defense will be there. The Titans have the third best rush defense in the league, so the Jags might not get the same opportunity.
