The waiting is finally over.
Valdosta (Ga.) High School 4-star defensive end Gabriel Harris has officially announced his commitment to the University of Georgia. Many expected it to come during his visit for the annual spring game in Athen on Saturday, but the suspense is over.
The 6-foot-4 235-pound defensive end transferred to Valdosta from Thomas County High School where he had seven sacks and played multiple positions, including tight end. The versatile athlete plays tight end for his area 7v7 team.
The connection with the coaches, in particular head coach Kirby Smart, is what helped make the decision
“We are actually from the same area — Bainbridge — that’s where I’m from,” Harris said. “The school he went to was my old high school’s rival.
“His parents also stay live where my momma used to live — this place called ‘Two Egg, Florida.’ We joke about that.
”He told me how much he’s going to push me and that connected,” Harris added about Smart.
Harris is a 4-star prospect and the 90th-ranked prospect overall, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Check out the full interview and follow @FQRecruiting for more breaking commitments.
