While on-campus recruiting is shut down and the class of 2020 prepares for college, Old Dominion has a couple of new names. Head Coach Ricky Rahne and his staff continue to prioritize and land recruits from the state of Virginia.

Devon Allen, an athlete out of Virginia Beach Ocean Lakes and Chaz Allison, a linebacker out of Ashburn (VA) Broad Run accepted preferred walk-on (PWO) offers from the Monarchs and will be joining the 2020 class.

Allen played a plethora of positions at Ocean Lakes. He also had a PWO offer Pitt and offers from Norfolk State and UVA-Wise. The athlete will stay home, however, and be a Monarch.

“It’s truly a blessing,” Allen said. “I came from nothing and I had to grind harder than anybody else. So it means more when I’m blessed with opportunities and things in my life, because I know they weren’t handed to me.”

Allison, a first-team all-state linebacker, was part of a 23-3 run at Broad Run over his final two seasons. Allison chose the Monarchs over PWOs from Maryland and Towson, and scholarship offers from Frostburg State (D2) and Concord.

“I’ve worked my whole life to get this opportunity,” Allison said. “I’m so excited and can’t wait to live out my dream that I’ve worked so hard for.”

“I’m just excited to prove who I am and what I can do next year,” Allison exclaimed.

The ODU staff has overcome several setbacks to assemble this class, including short timetables due to the Early Signing Period, as well as dealing with the effects of a worldwide pandemic. Even so, the two newest Monarchs join the best recruiting class in ODU history.  Rahne and his staff are showing fans that they will continue to lock down the state of Virginia, keeping the stars of Friday nights in-state to play on Saturday.
