Florida State announced that it will begin its spring practice on Monday, March 6th. On Monday afternoon, we at FifthQuarter released our wide receiver spring practice preview for the Seminoles. We continue the position previews by highlighting the tight end room today.
FAREWELL CAM AND WYATT
Florida State finally has to say goodbye to veteran tight ends Cam McDonald, who exceeded his eligibility, and Wyatt Rector. The Long Beach, California native (McDonald) finished with 74 receptions for 861 yards and 5 touchdowns during his four-year playing career with the Seminoles. Rector was a pivotal piece in the Seminoles’ special teams unit where he was awarded FSU’s Special Teams Scout Team Player of the Year and was a team captain. However, tight ends coach Chris Thomsen has officially replenished the position group with two transfers: Jaheim Bell (South Carolina) and Kyle Morlock (Shorter).
Bell finished the 2022 season with 25 receptions for 492 total yards and five total touchdowns with the Gamecocks. Morlock led his Shorter (DII) team with 30 receptions, 446 yards, and six touchdowns. Not to mention, you still have pieces such as Markeston Douglas, Brian Courtney, Jackson West, Jerrale Powers, and others who are steadily improving and developing. This is a position that has suddenly turned into one of the best tight end position groups that the Seminoles have ever had.
