Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell is back at it again with another transfer portal acquisition.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Seminoles landed South Carolina redshirt sophomore defensive end transfer Gilber Edmond. According to the Gamecocks’ official roster, Edmond is listed at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds.
The Fort Pierce (Fla.) native had 39 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, and two sacks during the 2022 season. With the acquisition of Edmond, the Seminoles currently have nine scholarship defensive ends on their roster.
-Dennis Briggs Jr, RS Sr
-Jared Verse, RS Jr
-Derrick McLendon II, RS Jr
-Gilber Edmond, RS Jr
-Byron Turner Jr, RS Soph
-Patrick Payton, RS Soph
-Jaden Jones, Soph
-Aaron Hester, RS Fr

The Seminoles needed to acquire quality depth on their defense. Unfortunately, fans saw what happened last year when defensive end Jared Verse and defensive tackle Fabien Lovett Sr. were sidelined with injuries. With the heightened expectations of becoming potential ACC champions and College Football Playoff dark horses next season, Florida State needs adequate depth at every position.
