HELP NEEDED IN TALLAHASSEE
After a disastrous 2022 recruiting cycle for the Seminoles at the wide receiver position where five-star Kevin Coleman Jr. committed to Jackson State and four-star Devaughn Mortimer flipped from Florida State to Louisville, a portion of the Florida State fan base began to doubt wide receivers coach Ron Dugans. The Seminoles left the Early Signing Period with zero high school wide receiver prospects.
HELP IS ON THE WAY
However, the coaching staff had a plan in place as they went to the transfer portal to fulfill their remaining needs. The Seminoles acquired redshirt junior Winston Wright Jr. (West Virginia), redshirt junior Mycah Pittman Jr. (Oregon), redshirt sophomore Johnny Wilson (Arizona State), and redshirt sophomore Deuce Spann (Illinois).
The wide receiver position for the Seminoles in the 2022 season had its best season in the last few years with the elevated play of quarterback Jordan Travis where the top three wide receivers were Johnny Wilson (43 receptions for 897 yards and five touchdowns), Ontaria Wilson (30 receptions for 495 yards and four touchdowns), and Mycah Pittman Jr. (32 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns). All while not having their best projected wide receiver transfer prospect in Winston Wright Jr., who had 63 receptions for 688 yards and five touchdowns in 2021 for the Mountaineers, after he suffered an apparent lower-body injury from a car crash during the offseason.
DYNAMIC WEAPONS ADDED FROM 2023 RECRUITING CYCLE
Ron Dugans and company were not done bringing in talented playmakers to the position group. During the 2023 recruiting cycle, the Seminoles acquired five-star Hykeem Williams, four-star Vandrevius Jacobs, and three-star Darren Lawrence. The wide receiver room has continued to grow and develop over time.
Here is a list of scholarship receivers on Florida State’s roster:
-Winston Wright Jr, RS Sr
-Mycah Pittman Jr, RS Sr
-Deuce Spann, RS Jr
-Johnny Wilson, RS Jr

DUGANS KEEPS RECRUITING FOR THE 2024 RECRUITING CYCLE
Ron Dugans has gotten an early start on acquiring wide receiver prospects for the 2024 cycle as he has now secured four-star Camdon Frier and four-star Tawaski Abrams for the Seminoles. They aren’t finished yet at the position either as Florida State is still heavily involved with five-star Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State commit), five-star Joshisa Trader, four-star Chance Robinson, four-star James Madison II, and unranked Terence Marshall.
The future is certainly bright in Tallahassee at the wide receiver position under the guidance of Ron Dugans.
