During the 2022 recruiting cycle, Florida State secured six commitments during the month of June.
Fast forward to June 2022, the Seminoles have landed two prospects for their 2023 recruiting class thus far in the month.
Massive Recruiting Weekend
This weekend has massive implications on how this recruiting cycle turns out. The coaching staff brought in eight official visitors this weekend:
- Four-star OT Lucas Simmons
- Four-star DE Keldric Faulk
- Four-star RB Daylan Smothers
- Four-star RB Samuel Singleton Jr.
- Four-star QB Chris Parson (FSU commit)
- Four-star DB Avery Stuart
- Three-star DT Tavion Gadson
- Three-star LB DeMarco Ward
Commitment Watch
Out of the seven prospects who are not committed, there are four that the Seminoles seem to be gaining traction with and could be on “commit watch”.
- Four-star OT Lucas Simmons
- Four-star DE Keldric Faulk
- Four-star RB Samuel Singleton Jr.
- Three-star LB DeMarco Ward
FSU also seems to be gaining traction with four-star running back Daylan Smothers, four-star defensive back Avery Stuart and three-star defensive tackle Tavion Gadson.
However, Smothers is still involved with home-state team NC State and Oklahoma. Stuart is being recruited to schools such as Kentucky, Arkansas, Auburn and Miami and it could be an uphill climb for the Seminoles. Gadson seems attainable but is Florida State ready to take his commitment at this time?
What if the Predictions Were True?
According to 247Sports Composite rankings, the Seminoles have the 51st-ranked 2023 recruiting class (96.92 composite score). However, if the coaching staff were able to lure in these four talented prospects, Florida State would have the 17th-best class (167.55 composite score).
It’s a long process and classes aren’t defined in June. This weekend, however, probably needs to bear fruit for FSU.
