FSU Football: Deuce is Loose

During the offseason, Florida State added four wide receivers via the transfer portal: Mycah Pittman, Winston Wright Jr., Johnny Wilson and Deuce Spann.

Illinois transfer Deuce Spann is perhaps the least heralded of the four. During the 2021 season at Illinois, the converted quarterback had five receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Most assumed that the speedster needed another season to develop before fully contributing during the 2023 season.

However, Spann has started to string together notable performances in fall camp. After the first scrimmage on Saturday night, FSU head coach Mike Norvell noted Spann’s progress.

Collectively, it was probably his best day showcasing his speed,” Norvell said.

Norvell had previously mentioned utilizing Spann’s speed on kickoff return duties. But can the St. Petersburg (Fla.) native be a serviceable piece out wide for the Seminoles this season? He seems to be making a convincing case.
