First Big 12 player taken in the 1st round in 3 years

After looking at the several different mock drafts that have been created since the NFL regular season ended, I have looked at hundreds of mocks draft. It is almost certain that this is the year the Big 12 could end their streak of not having a 1st rounder since the 2020 NFL Draft when the Dallas Cowboys drafted CeeDee Lamb (Oklahoma) with the 17th overall pick, Philadelphia Eagles drafted Jalen Reagor (TCU) with the 21st overall pick, Los Angeles Chargers drafted Kenneth Murray (Oklahoma) with the 23rd overall pick, Seattle Seahawks drafted Jordyn Brooks (Texas Tech), and Minnesota Vikings drafted Jeff Gladney (TCU).

To see the Big 12 not have a single 1st rounder since 2020 is a little bizarre as a conference such as the Missouri Valley Football Conference (FCS) has had back-to-back NFL drafts with a selection. The Big 12 in the last two drafts have had the least amount of drafted players among all the Power 5 conference.

NFL Draft Picks by Power 5 Conference (2021 & 2020)

  • SEC: 170
  • Big 10: 92
  • ACC: 63
  • PAC 12: 53
  • Big 12: 47

Possible NFL 1st round according to different mock drafts

Most Certain to be drafted in the 1st round:

Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Texas Tech: Having back-to-back seasons with 7 sacks, Wilson is a high-motor player who consistently finds his way into the backfield.

Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU: He is the WR1 that NFL teams are looking for. He is great at winning the contested throws that teams are looking as they may not have the best quarterbacks on their team at this point.

Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas: He has been dominant for Texas the past two seasons and I could see him instantly translating that at the next level.

50/50 chance of being drafted in the 1st round:

Anton Harrison, OT, Oklahoma: While Harrison is a top tackle in this year’s draft, NFL scouts have him going in the late 1st round or early in the 2nd round.
