Cooper’s Bets: An easy $1

As we head into the postseason and have already made it there for FCS games, I’ve decided to make my bets public. I am not saying I’m an elite bettor but I usually do well for myself. As a public school teacher (yikes at that salary) I usually am responsible and ease to the safe side of betting. So as of today we are going to start this experiment and document it all the way until the national championship game. Today and leading into tomorrow I have an easy two game parlay that I will have my eyes on. So this is a new series called Cooper’s Bets, make sure you keep a close eye on it. Unlike others, I will show you where I put my money.

Moneyline:
North Dakota State -1000 vs. Samford
South Dakota State -1000 vs. Holy Cross

Out of the four games in the FCS Quarterfinals, these two have the largest margin of spread odds going on. As I am typing this they are both -19 point favorites. North Dakota State and South Dakota State obviously met earlier in the year with SDSU coming out victorious 23-21. It is almost fate that will bring them back together soon. That “soon” could be in the national championship game. The only thing that stands in the way of this scenario is heavily doubted underdogs Samford and Holy Cross.

In the FCS playoffs, underdogs have gone 8-8 covering the spread in total. In the Second Round, we saw every top 8 seed of the FCS Playoffs (the favorite) knock off the underdog. We project that to happen in these two games.

Samford and North Dakota State kick off tonight at 7 PM EST. I am going with the Bison’s Secondary for the reason why they will definitely win this game. There are tons of other reasons but holding opponents under 150 passing yards in todays era of college football is impressive. Oh yeah, the other main reason is that Samford is projected to be without their star QB Michael Hiers again. Backup Quincy Crittendon can also light up the scoreboard, but he has seen nothing like NDSU yet.

Meanwhile South Dakota State and Holy Cross kick off tomorrow at noon. Let’s be clear, South Dakota State is the #1 seed in these playoffs for a reason. The Jackrabbits only allow 14.75 points per game and have held a lot of impressive teams at bay this season. Not only do they keep teams out of the endzone, they just don’t let them do a lot period. They only allow 247 yards per game, which is second in the FCS. Like the pick above I am rocking with the defense of the favored team. Hopefully, this 2022 matchup will be closer than their matchup in 2020.
