Oregon Football Recruiting Outlook: April 28, 2021

The Oregon football recruiting class, just like in 2021, is off to a slow start for the 2022 class.

Oregon’s class is currently ranked 19th in the nation and first in the Pac-12, according to the 247Sports Composite. Head coach Mario Cristobal is looking to bring in a smaller but just as deep class as he has since being given the reins in Eugene.

Recent Trends

A lot can change in a short time when it comes to recruiting; the Ducks are no stranger to that, having lost players like Chris Steele and gaining guys like Justin Flowe on really short notice. There are a few players where Oregon’s position has really seemed to change in their recruitment.

Travious Lathan, LB – UPWARDS – The Ducks received an additional Crystal Ball on 247Sports to land the services of the Miami outside linebacker. Cristobal has done wonders to push Oregon down into the south, especially Miami with it being over 3,000 miles away. As an aside, Lathan has said he talked to his coach about possibly moving to safety.

Cyrus Moss, DE – UPWARDS – Oregon still holds the lead for Cyrus Moss, who is now the 26th ranked player in the nation, according to 247Sports. When all is concluded, Cyrus could be another highly-rated Oregon defensive end commit.

Kevin Coleman, WR – DOWNWARDS – Although Coach Cristobal and company are still in the race for the 5-star wide receiver, it’s starting to look like a two-horse race between Alabama and Texas. We’d all love to see Coleman playing with Ty Thompson in a few years. Unfortunately, that seems like a stretch. Honestly, the trend with Coleman and Evan Stewart are inverse. Oregon is very much alive to nab one of them.

Evan Stewart, WR – UPWARDS – Texas has been a place where Oregon has tried to poach talent for years. The Ducks may finally start seeing success under this regime. Coleman being an Alabama-Texas battle has given Oregon an opportunity here with Stewart. Either way, the Ducks look to nab a talented wide receiver for the 2022 class to add to their stacked roster.

Names To Watch

There are other highly-talented and sought-after players could end up at Oregon that we aren’t expecting right now. The most notable may be 5-star tackle Josh Conerly Jr. Guard Earnest Greene could also help bolster the offensive line.

After that, there are a few others that could land in Oregon’s lap. Running back Gavin Sawchuk and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan are two names to pay attention to at the skill positions.
