Strong Personal Relationship and Future Drew Johnson to ODU

Strong Personal Relationship and Future Drew Johnson to ODU

One of the newest Old Dominion basketball commitments, Jadin Johnson is ready to make an impact in Norfolk.

A three-star point guard coming from Omaha, Neb., 2021 prospect Jadin Johnson chose ODU over Cleveland State, and Montana State last August. Johnson is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the fourth-best recruit in his state. He’s list as the No. 45 overall point guard in the nation.

When asked about why he chose ODU, his answer was a simple, but one that echoes loudly.

“The coaches made me feel like family,” Johnson exclaimed.

The commitment for Johnson, was something that had been brewing since he first got to high school but it wasn’t just basketball that drew him to the Monarchs.

“I chose ODU because I started talking to (assistant) Coach (Bryant) Stith when I was a freshman in high school,” Johnson explained. “It became more than basketball and we developed a strong personal relationship. I looked at the people and correlated the people to my goals.

“I wanted to surround myself around coaches that will make me a better person when I leave ODU. Coach Stith and (head) Coach (Jeff) Jones treat me like family and understand my goals,” Johnson continued. “They have a four-year plan for me, but we always spoke about the 40-year plan. They also both understood my position at point guard and being a true leader more than anyone else.“

Johnson, is one of three point guards to commit and sign with ODU for the 2021 class, along with Imo Essien, and D’Angelo Stines. After transferring, Johnson is already playing with fellow Division I-bound stars in high school.

“I chose to transfer to Millard North my junior year to be a leader with four other Division I basketball players,” Johsnon said. “Now, I have the privilege to be a leader and make my teammates better. “

Johnson is selfless on the court, which should transfer to success at ODU.

“I don’t look at stats, I only look at wins and loses,” Johnson said. “I am leading a team that is undefeated and ranked 17th in the country and I do what the team needs me to do every game. My goal is to set up my teammates for opportunities to be successful. I want to lead ODU to four (Conference USA) championships and I’m going to make sure people know who ODU is when we make a run in the dance. I will do what I need to do to make that happen.”

Johnson made his commitment official last November when he put pen to paper and signed his letter of intent.

Johnson has his sights set on glory at the Chartway Arena, and fans should be very excited about the incoming point guard.
