Following a lackluster start under head coach Andy Avalos, Boise State football seems to have regained their footing with a 10-win season in 2022. With quarterback Taylen Green returning after a successful first season, what are the realistic expectations for the Broncos in 2023?

Green is expected to benefit from a full offseason as the presumed QB1, without the pressure of someone breathing down his neck. While Boise State has a tough schedule early on, Fifth Quarter predicts that the team will take another step in the right direction in 2023.

The Broncos are projected to lose at Washington in the opener on September 2, but to bounce back to beat a really good UCF team in Boise the following week. They are also predicted to beat North Dakota, split the road games against San Diego State and Memphis, and win the next three games to improve to 6-2.

Boise State could face a loss at reigning champ Fresno State, but they are predicted to win out, resulting in a realistic regular season record of 9-3. The team’s best-case scenario is 10-2, while its worst-case scenario is 8-4.

Despite the Broncos’ previous struggles, Fifth Quarter is optimistic about the team’s future with Green leading the way. With their momentum from the 2022 season, Boise State has the potential to climb the ranks in the Mountain West and on a national stage in 2023.
