One of the things that the causal college football fan doesn’t know about bowl season are the payouts. If you didn’t know each bowl game has their own monetary payout for both Universities that participate. This helps aid the cost as programs usually eat a lot of money due to expenses. If a team belongs to a conference their bowl payout will be added to their conference’s collective and will be redistributed later. That’s why every conference wants as many of their teams possible to make the bowl season. This gives more money for the conference if more teams make it.
Even the teams that do not make a bowl will receive a payout for just being in the conference. Then you have Independents like Notre Dame who want the highest payout as possible. Since they are Independent of a conference they share with no one. So let’s take a conference and look at their payouts this bowl season.
