Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell entered his third season with a combined 8-13 record during his tenure with the university.
Some individuals were beginning to question if Mike Norvell was the appropriate coach that could turn around a football program that was filled with tradition-rich history and championship-level expectations. The path did not get any easier for the Seminoles in 2022, who had to face opponents such as LSU, Louisville, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Clemson, Miami, and Florida.
However, Florida State defied all odds and achieved its first 10-win season since 2016. As a result, excitement surrounds the program where the Seminoles have been ranked highly in several way-too-early 2023 college football preseason rankings.
Preseason rankings are great and all (*cough* Miami and Texas A&M *cough*), but the Seminoles are hoping to obtain long-term sustainable success for 2023 and beyond.
How does that success happen? By obtaining the right players who fit your roster.
The Florida State Seminoles wasted no time in doing so as they immediately became a transfer portal destination. According to the 247Sports’ Transfer Portal Football Team Rankings, Florida State is listed as the No. 1 transfer class headlined by Virginia cornerback Fentrell Cypress, South Carolina tight end Jaheim Bell, and UTEP offensive lineman Jeremiah Byers.
While some rival fanbases will argue that the Seminoles’ hot streak in the portal is not a recipe for success, the coaching staff has also gotten high-touted high prospects to sign with the Seminoles such as five-star wide receiver Hykeem Williams, four-star offensive tackle Lucas Simmons, four-star defensive end Lamont Green Jr., four-star linebacker Blake Nichelson, four-star safety Conrad Hussey, among others.
The present and future is certainly bright in Tallahassee.
