It’s no secret that Arizona Wildcat’s head coach Jedd Fisch is not getting the recognition he absolutely deserves. Over the past couple of seasons, Fisch has worked tirelessly in rebuilding the Wildcat’s team from the ground up. His efforts didn’t go unrealized as the Wildcats concluded the previous year on a promising note with a 5-7 overall record and wins over ranked UCLA and rival Arizona State. This was, obviously, a marked improvement from the 1-11 record the Wildcats posted during Fisch’s inaugural season in 2021.
Moving into his third year as coach, Fisch has set his sights high and is not prepared to downplay the potential of his group. He doesn’t have a crystal ball to predict the number of victories but is very optimistic about the commendable quality of the players at his disposal, as well as their immense talent. Fisch seems to be most worried about his players competing at their highest potential, and if they do that, then they seem to stand a strong chance of winning a lot of games.
Fisch candidly revealed his recruitment strategy at Pac-12 Media Day. Essentially, his strategy is to target players from winning programs. The rationale is to incorporate as many winners as possible into their locker room, implying a successful culture breeds further success.
Fisch wants his players to know that joining the Wildcats is not just about football, there is a strong focus on academics as well. For the Wildcats, their standard is a 3.0 GPA or higher for all 85 scholarship players. This high academic standard must be met, irrespective of what conventional eligibility standards may suggest.
