This week for the #9 moment for legendary #9 Peter Warrick doesn’t even involve him being on the field! This was probably one of the most imperative things to start the 1999 run, and it came unexpected. Peter Warrick always had the most unexpected moves on the field at FSU,but his most unexpected move came verbally off the field
The Biggest Recruit in 1999
It’s no secret that the FSU football program has been the most consistent at recruiting elite talent for the past thirty years. Bobby Bowden built up a program that can recruit for itself at this point. We also know that Bobby Bowden was the best recruiter in his Era and his biggest recruit in my opinion was Peter Warrick.
We can all argue the likes of Deion Sanders or Charlie Ward were bigger, but there is a difference with Peter Warrick. Bobby Bowden had to recruit Peter two different times at FSU. Once out of high school as the nation’s top high school receiver and the second to come back his senior season at Florida State. Sometimes the best recruit isn’t at a high school or junior college, but sometimes on your own team. The best recruit in the Florida State 1999 class was Peter Warrick.
The Unexpected Moment
January 8, 1999 was the big moment when Peter decided to stay in Tallahassee Florida. This came unexpectedly due to how high he was projected to go into the NFL Draft.
In the spring of 1999 these five teams had the top five picks in the NFL Draft. Cleveland, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and New Orleans. All had the potential to pick Peter Warrick and make him an instant multimillionaire. As a kid from Bradenton, from a single parent house hold I’m sure it was tough to turn down.
Bobby Bowden was quoted as saying… “I really think Peter likes Tallahassee, Florida, and he likes it at FSU,” coach Bobby Bowden says. “I don’t think it’s like he can’t wait to get to New York or Philadelphia. Maybe that doesn’t excite him right now.”
Former FSU Offensive Coordinator Mark Richt is quoted as saying… “What he just did will give everybody on this team more confidence about our future offensively,”
Peter Warrick himself is quoted as saying… “I’m happy in my heart,” Warrick said. “That’s all that matters right now.”
An Associated Press article once started out by saying, “Peter Warrick could have ended up as the answer to a trivia question. Which Florida State receiver was once roommates with Randy Moss?”
Imagine a receiving core with Ron Dugans, Randy Moss, Laveranues Coles, Peter Warrick, and EG Green?!

This is a hobby that I thoroughly enjoy, but would love to create FSU content full time. Currently I am an elementary educator, and high school football coach on the gulf coast of Florida. So team up with us for just $1 a month as it would be appreciated.
