It was another winning week for Florida State baseball, but the story wasn’t the bats. It was the arms.
In a series dominated by pitching, the Seminoles took two of three from Troy over the weekend. The two teams combined for just 14 runs over the three games.
This came after an impressive power display from FSU during the week vs. Stetson. Here’s a look back on the week that was for the Seminoles:
A Look Back
Stetson 5, Florida State 9
Tuesday, April 27
Matheu Nelson, Robby Martin, Elijah Cabell and Nander De Sedas all homered for FSU as the Seminoles pulled away from Stetson. Cabell and De Sedas each had three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs in the win. Jorge Arenas finished 3-for-4 for Stetson in the loss. Tyler Ahearn worked two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win for FSU.
Troy 2, Florida State 3
Friday, April 30
Elijah Cabell homered for a third straight game as FSU held off Troy to open a 3-game series on Friday. Parker Messick picked up his fifth win of the season while allowing just two runs in 6.1 innings. Messick struck out nine in the win. Logan Cerny had three hits and an RBI for Troy in the loss.

Troy 3, Florida State 0
Saturday, May 1
FSU was shut out at home for the first time in two months as the Seminoles had no answer for Troy’s Orlando Ortiz. Ortiz allowed just five hits and three walks in six shutout innings. Bryce Hubbart was outstanding for FSU, but took the loss. Troy’s Nic Nolan homered in the sixth for the Trojans’ first hit of the game to break a scoreless tie. Logan Cerny scored a pair of runs in the victory. Logan Lacey and Elijah Cabell combined for four of the six FSU hits.
Troy 2, Florida State 4
Sunday, May 2
The bats came alive late for FSU as the Seminoles took the rubber game and the series from Troy. FSU tied the contest 2-2 with two runs in the fifth before going ahead for good on Davis Hare’s solo home run in the sixth inning. Matheu Nelson added some insurance with a solo shot to open the eighth for FSU. Conor Grady struck out 13 batters in the victory, but it was reliever Tyler Ahearn who picked up his second win of the week. Rigsby Mosley homered for the Trojans in the loss.
In the Polls and Standings
Without playing a conference game, FSU’s 15-12 ACC record didn’t change this week. The Seminoles are currently tied for third in the ACC Atlantic division standings and for fourth overall in the conference.
FSU moved up one spot to No. 14 in this week’s Baseball America Poll. In the D1Baseball Poll, FSU rose two spots to No. 18. The Seminoles remain unranked in the Collegiate Baseball Poll.
Nuggets
Tyler Ahearn picked up his first two wins of the season this week. Entering the week, Ahearn had two total wins for his career.
Nelson’s blast on Sunday gives him 20 home runs for the season. Nelson became the first FSU player to hit 20 home runs in a season since Buster Posey in 2008. He continues to lead the country in homers. Nelson also leads the nation with 57 RBIs.
In Sunday’s win over Troy, Conor Grady set a career-high with 13 strikeouts. Davis Hare’s solo home run in the sixth was the first of his career.
Head coach Mike Martin Jr. was ejected in Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Troy. It was his first ejection as FSU’s head coach.
FSU’s Tyler Martin leads the ACC with 39 walks.
Upcoming
FSU won’t play a midweek game this week. Instead, the Seminoles will prepare to travel to South Bend, Ind. to face ACC-leading Notre Dame for three games.
Contests will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 12 p.m. ET, respectively. All three games will air on ACC Network.
